The North Columbus branch of Junk King originally opened in Dublin, on Tuller Rd. In the last couple years they have relocated to West Columbus, on Phillipi Rd, near Hollywood Casino.
They have been in business since 2010 and are owned by long-time Columbus residents Marta Hughes and Erik Hughes.
As the owner and author of this site, I am happy to say that I have been friends with both Erik and Marta for over 20 years; we all met while living in the OSU campus area.
I spent a half a day working for them in Autumn of 2016 on a house that was being cleaned out following a death. It was hard, sweaty, challenging work but it was satisfying to know we were helping a family in their time of need.
During the clean out I found the keys to a safety deposit box that the mother had left for her surviving children (tucked in an address book). A good chuck of my time was spent dismantling and removing a freezer from the basement that was from the 1950s. While that was essentially brute force, I also worked on more sensitive tasks. The woman’s husband, who had apparently died long ago, was a World War 2 veteran and she still had the U.S. flag, folded into a triangle and framed, that had draped his coffin.
They work on every job they undertake. They go to great lengths to hire and train employees who are professional in every situation.
I highly recommend them as they are experienced, professional, reasonable, and friendly.
